An awning at the front of El Paso International Airportappeared to have collapsed as heavy rain and thunderstormsmoved through the region.
Photos shared by El Paso Fit Fam late Sept. 23 showed damage outside the terminal, where police officers and fire crews worked to secure the scene. Travelers could also be seen walking near the apparent collapse.
The awning appeared to collapse amid a stretch of stormy weatherin El Paso, though the cause had not been confirmed. The extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured were not immediately clear.
The El Paso Times contacted city officials for details and to confirm whether the damage was weather-related.
Scattered thunderstorms expected on Thursday
El Pasoans can expect partly cloudy skies on Thursday, Sept. 24 with scattered afternoon and
evening thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood watch continues to be in effect for El Paso and the surrounding area until 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
Storm coverage will be more scattered, but most of the area is highly susceptible to strong run off due to saturated ground, the National Weather Service said. The region is forecasted to have drier conditions over the weekend with better chances of rain and an increased flooding threat early next week.
