A mother was extradited to El Paso on a capital murder charge in connection with the starvation death of her 10-year-old son and allegations that she failed to provide sufficient food to another child, authorities and court documents state.
U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 25-year-old Glenda Marks in Montague County, Texas, on one count of capital murder of a person younger than 10 and murder, El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release. Marks also is facing four counts of injury to a child.
No attorney is listed for Marks in court records.
Limited details were released by the sheriff's office and Contreras did not respond to an email request for more information.
The only
information on the case comes from six indictments that are each one page long. The indictments, which were filed in August, list two alleged victims, including the 10-year-old boy and another child victim whose age has not been released.
Marks was extradited to El Paso and booked into the Downtown jail on Wednesday, Sept. 9, the news release states. Her bond was set at $1.6 million. She remains jailed as of Tuesday, Sept. 15. Jail records listed Marks as being from Bowie, Texas, which is in Montague County. Bowie is northwest of Dallas.
The indictments state the alleged crimes happened in March 2023 in El Paso County. The Monday, Sept. 14, news release is the first time authorities have released any information about the boy's death. No information has been released on why it took three years to announce the investigation into the child's death.
Woman accused of starving child to death
The indictments regarding the 10-year-old boy state that the death was caused by Marks "refusing to provide sufficient food and/or nutrition" to the boy.
Marks allegedly failed to check on the child and kept the child's other parent from seeing him, the indictment states. She is accused of lying to the other parent by claiming the boy was being fed regularly when he was not.
No further information is included in the indictment.
Two indictments on the injury-to-a-child charges filed against Marks involving the other child include the same allegations. The indictments state Marks also refused to provide sufficient food and nutrition to this child and lied to the child's other parent.
