The El Paso Police Department Gang Unit arrested two teenagers and seized an arsenal of firearms following a shooting involving teens in the South Side.
The investigation began when two boys, ages 15 and 16, were sitting in a vehicle when they were approached and fired upon on Saturday, Sept. 5, in the 100 block of South Eucalyptus Street by the Tays South Apartments, El Paso police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo stated in a news release on Thursday, Sept. 10.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
An ongoing investigation by the Gang Unit resulted in the arrests of Martin Guadalupe Rodriguez, 17, and Deven Hendrix Barrios, 19, both of El Paso.
Under Texas
law, suspects age 17 and older are considered adults in the criminal justice system.
Rodriguez was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well as charges of evading arrest and resisting arrest. He was booked into the El Paso County jail in Downtown on Thursday, Sept. 10, under a total bond of $202,000, according to a jail log.
Barrios was arrested on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was booked Thursday on a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.
A photo released by EPPD shows that gang investigators seized at least four rifles, five handguns, ammunition and various ammo magazines and other items. The investigation continues.
