El Paso police arrested a San Antonio man accused of firing a handgun into the air outside a bar after threatening two people in the Five Points area after a dispute over an unpaid tab, police said.
Joseph Alexander Aguilar, 24, was quickly arrested following the shooting at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in the 800 block of North Piedras Street near El Paso police headquarters, a news release by Officer Adrian Cisneros, a police spokesman, stated on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
An investigation found that Aguilar and another person were at Coconuts Bar & Grill, 816 N. Piedras St., when they began to argue over the tab and the inability
to pay it, police said.
Aguilar and the other customer were escorted out of the bar, but Aguilar returned in a vehicle and from outside the bar allegedly pointed a gun at two people before firing several gunshots into the air, police said.
Police officers were nearby and saw Aguilar get into a vehicle and leave the bar but he was soon stopped and taken into custody, police said.
Aguilar was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a charge of discharge of a firearm.
Aguilar is being held on a $103,000 bond at the El Paso County jail in Downtown, according to a jail log. He remained jailed as of Tuesday. No attorney is listed for him on court records.
