The El Paso Times continues its 2026 high school football countdown with No. 10 Chapin. Practice began Aug. 3 for teams that did not have spring practice and began on Aug. 10 for teams that did have spring practice. The opening weekend for games is Aug. 27-28.
Outlook for 2026 season
Chapin has been a consistent qualifier for the UIL football playoffs
and the Huskies will be in the playoff hunt again in 2026 in Class 5A, Division 2.The Huskies face another big challenge in District 1-5A, Division 2 vs. Canutillo, Del Valle, Burges and El Paso High.
The Huskies should be formidable on offense with plenty of playmakers. If the Huskies can be consistent on defense, a district title isn't out of the questions.
Chapin will also have to adjust to a life without, Daveon Singleton,
who is playing in college for UTEP. Singleton was one of the city's most explosive players on offense at multiple positions.
Head coach Marco Chavez enters his third season as coach and has led the team to 13 wins and two playoff appearances.
A look back at 2025
The Huskies were solid with a 7-4 record and quality victories vs. Hanks, Canutillo and Del Valle and a near road win in the Class 5A playoffs, losing a 42-35 heartbreaker to Abilene Cooper.
How the offense shapes up
The Huskies have talented receivers Corwon Martin, Leaf Dewitt and Keymani Oxendineto leading the way. Fabian Ortiz will be counted on for leadership at running back and Jacobo Chavez will be looked at as a leader at quarterback.
Transfers Xavier Sanders and Aidan Sanders could help the team at muliple positions.

How the defense shapes up
Dewitt, Jasiel Iniguez and Terrance Hall will be leaders in the defensive backfield, Juel Delgado and Antonio Enriquez will be counted on heavily at linebacker and Enoch Barios will help anchor things at defensive end.
What Chapin coach Marco Chavez says
"We feel we have a strong group of returnees and newcomers, wo will step up for us," Chavez said. "Veterans like Corwon Martin and Terrance Hall will be key for us, they are leaders."
What Chapin players Corwon Martin and Juel Delgado said
"The goal is to win another district title and get past that first round in the playoffs," Martin said. "We are very competitive on both sides of the ball and there is a high standard here at Chapin."
Added Delgado: "We have a lot of spirit and tradition in this program. We're very competitive and motivated right now."
