El Paso police have identified the two young men killed in a shooting at the scenic Tom Lea Upper Park over the weekend.
Joshua Michael Himes and Francisco Javier Ignacio, both 20, were fatally shot during
an altercation with a group at the popular park, which overlooks Downtown El Paso, stated a news release by Officer Adrian Cisneros, a police spokesman, on Monday, Sept. 14.
An investigation by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit found that a group of people was drinking at 3:39 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the park at 900 E. Rim Road.
An altercation broke out between Himes and Ignacio and a group of unidentified persons, who shot the two men before leaving a vehicle, police said.
Himes, who was a resident of Central area, and Ignacio, who was from the East Side, died on the roadway at the park.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the investigation into what police are describing as a double murder and a capital murder. In Texas, capital murderis punishable by life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
