Who pays El Paso's biggest property tax bills? See the list

El Paso Electric is El Paso's top property taxpayer on a list compiled by the El Paso Central Appraisal District.

The utility's property tax bill from the city in 2025 was just under $5 million, followed closely by the $4.3 million tax bill for Marathon Petroleum's oil refinery in East-Central El Paso.

However, a big flaw of the list is that some companies' total properties are not consolidated into one account, but instead are divided among different accounts.

That means the total property taxes paid by some companies are not shown on the list.

For example, the top-20 list has three of The Hospitals of Providence's facilities listed separately. It does not consolidate its eight hospitals and other facilities into one account, which would move it much

higher on the list. Combining just those three facilities on the list would put Providence fourth with a tax bill of $2.2 million.

So, it's possible El Paso Electric's top ranking may fall if other companies' properties are consolidated into a single account.

The list also does not show top taxpayers in the county. For example, Amazon's fulfillment center in far East El Paso County would have a $3.1 million tax bill if it were inside the city, making it third on the city list. It has a county tax bill of $1.9 million because county taxes are less than the city's, according to El Paso Central Appraisal District online data.

Taxable property includes both real estate and personal property, such as equipment.
