The holiday honors those who fought for workers' rights in the late 19th-century labor movement. This year, Labor Day is Sept. 7 and it will celebrate more than 155 million people who make up the U.S. workforce.

Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September, which means many government and administrative offices will be closed. Here is what to know about Labor Day openings and closings.
