Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico continues to lead in the Texas U.S. Senate battle.
The ReconMR Texas Poll found Talarico leading Republican Ken Paxton 49% to 43%, a slight increase over his four-point lead in a July poll. The poll was conducted among 614 likely Texas voters between Sept. 8-11.
“The race for US Senate is heating up as Talarico extends his lead over Paxton,” ReconMR Senior Research Analyst Lindsey Hendren said in a news release. “This movement can also be seen by looking at independent voters who now favor Talarico by 40 points, 64-24%, up from 23 points, 53-30% in July.”
When it comes to favorability, Paxton is trending in the wrong direction — the latest poll showed that 55% of respondents held an unfavorable view
of him, up from 52% in July. Meanwhile, Talarico is seeing his star rise, with his favorability rating at 50% in the latest poll, up from 46% in July.
When respondents were asked who they think will win the election, 48% said Talarico.
“Paxton’s Senate bid is being undermined by defections from within his own party," Hendren said. "While nearly all Democrats say they are supporting Talarico, just under 9 in 10 Republicans say they are supporting Paxton. However, when asked who they want to control the Senate after November, nearly all voters say they want their respective party to win, highlighting Paxton’s weakness among his own party."
When it comes to Texas issues, 55% of respondents oppose the use of Flock cameras in the state, while 53% of Republican respondents support them. Only 27% of respondents voiced opposition to the state's moratorium on new data centers.
