El Paso police arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting near the Montwood area in East El Paso, authorities said.
Officers responding to a report of an assault and shots fired found a 32-year-old man fatally shot about 6:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the 1700 block of Charlie Smith Drive, El Paso Police Department spokesman Sgt. Javier Sambrano said.
"Preliminary investigation in the cases was family related," Sambrano said in a news conference.
The suspect was taken into custody by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and other El Paso County law enforcement officers, Sambrano said. The suspect's name and his relationship to the victim have not been released.
The death is being investigated as a murder.
