Two teams that are expected to improve from last year open the 2026 season on Sunday Night Football when Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Giants in the debut of their new coach John Harbaugh.
While both teams missed the playoffs a year ago, Dallas revamped its defense under new coordinator Christian Parker and then drafted heavily on defense, starting with safety Caleb Downs. The Giants begin a new season with a new regime and the second year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who did enough his rookie year to intrigue.
Dallas opens the season as a 3-point road favorite in what is expected to be a competitive game.

Bookies.com: Bet the over
Bill Speros writes: “Dak Prescott and the Cowboys ripped off 9 straight wins over the Giants before losing last season's meaningless finale. While the Giants revamped their offensive this offseason, the Cowboys simply fine-tuned theirs. Big Blue carries at least a half-dozen new starters on defensive. This one opens for both offenses in the 4th quarter.”
Sports Betting Dime: Dallas 31.7, New York Giants 29.3
This site’s model picks Dallas to win but the Giants to cover with the total going over.
Dimers.com: Cowboys 25, Giants 22
This site’s model gives the Cowboys a 61.3% chance of winning and a 38.7% chance of New York winning.
BetMGM: Cowboys to go over 25 1/2 points
Bill Hennion writes: “Trading Dexter Lawrence leaves a massive absence on New York’s defense. The unit remains strong at edge rusher, but it’s mitigated here against a good Cowboys offensive line. It led to the team struggling immensely last year against a strong Cowboys offense. When the teams met in Week 2, Dallas raced the Giants defense for 40 points. Even if you remove two Brandon Aubrey field goals outside 50 yards, they still clear this number.”
ESPN: Dallas has a 56.9% chance to win.
This site gives the New York Giants a 42.8% chance to win with a 0.3% chance of a tie.
