El Paso voters continuetheir record-breakingearly voting turnout in the Texas midterm election.
The El Paso Elections Department hailed another record day of early voting turnout in a social media post Tuesday night, Oct. 20.
"El Paso County has once again broken its 2018 midterm early voting record, with 34,000+ in-person ballots cast," the elections department wrote in a Facebook post. "What an incredible turnout! Thank you, El Paso County, for showing up, making your voices heard, and making history. Let’s keep the momentum going!"

The early voting period kicked off Monday, Oct. 19, with roughly 17,500 ballots cast, topping the 17,236 votes logged on the opening day of early voting for the 2018 midterm election, when Beto O'Rourke waged a competitive
U.S. Senate battle against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
The record turnout comes as Texans watch a highly competitive U.S. Senate contest between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton as they vie to replace outgoing U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, in Washington. Other key races include the gubernatorial showdown between incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and Gina Hinojosa, plus a wide slate of state, county and city races.
Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30, with the general election set for the following Tuesday, Nov. 3.
