The race for Texas governoris heating up as Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa looks to unseat Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the November general election.
Hinojosa sat down with El Paso Times for a wide-ranging conversation about her campaign, the issues shaping the race and what she believes it will take for Democrats to win statewide in Texas.
Hinojosa has made several campaign stops in El Paso, including a town hall with voters, a university meeting with students and a news conference focused on data centers in Texas.
During the podcast interview, Hinojosa discusses her path to victory, the importance of independent voters and the personal story behind her entry into politics.
She also addresses some of the biggest issues facing Texas voters,
including public education, property taxes, immigration and border security.
Hinojosa also explains how she would work to heal highly damaging political divisions among Texans who hold different views on major economic and cultural issues facing the state.
Hinojosa is hoping to accomplish something Texas Democrats have not done in more than three decades: win the governor’s office and break the Republican Party’s long hold on statewide power
