What happened to the Sunset Amphitheater?
What happened to the Sunset Amphitheater? I drive by the proposed site in Northeast El Paso next to Camp Cohen on a daily basis, and nothing's happening. Commercials selling luxe boxes have disappeared.
Was the city duped again? At this rate the venue won't open in 2027 and probably get pushed to 2030.

Congratulations Destination El Paso and KTEP (88.5 FM) for the best hire possible in Marina Monsisvais for radio leadership. Cheers to Eric Pearson and company for this crucial hiring!El Pasoans have long clamored for radio authentically reflecting our uniqueness and to expose audiences to emerging culture. KTEP serves El Paso with award-winning journalism,
as a beacon for classical and jazz and with personable veterans, Sam Cassiano and Dan Alloway programming KTEP's blues & folk. Gracias! Yet in recent years other shows are not local and my recent master’s study finds such content predictably interpreted by audiences as inauthentic.
College radio in the 1980s, via culturally connected students and motivated programmers, introduced generations to music like R.E.M. (via a GA college town), later, Nirvana from Seattle’s bursting 90s scene via innovations and content others copied. Such radio models still engender “authenticity" and employ “authenticity” adding streaming and podcasts of lived experience, compelling narratives, relatable hosts and niche. I believe Monsisvais' own experience and her credibility with El Paso's youth and art promises success.Yes, Generation X will likely get our due now on KTEP via Monsisvais, (a Joe Dorgan show?), but more importantly; rock on millennials, Gen Z and beyond! Consider more letters to editor
I have been a subscriber for 47 years. Many of my elderly friends have cancelled their subscription, due to the many changes concerning newspapers.
In the past, Letters to the Editor would be published at least three times a week and included many more letters that you print in the Sunday newspaper. I really enjoy reading opinions of other people, to stay informed of many issues.
The experience of reading the newspaper in your hand is preferable to going to your website. Please consider printing more opinion letters to the editor.
On another note, the anniversary of the D Day invasion is never mentioned in the El Paso Times, a historical date.
