With the 2026-27 high school sports seasonapproaching, the El Paso Times will give readers a chance to vote to select El Paso's top athletes and teams.
This week, readers can vote for the Boys Athlete of the Week in football and cross country for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 3.

Here are the nominees:
- Isaac Pizana, PK, Burges. In win over El Paso High in a Class 5A, Division 2 showdown Pizana kicked a 44-yard field goal as time expired to help the Mustangs defeat the Tigers, 41-38.
- Myles Guardado, PK, Coronado. In win vs. Montwood in Class 6A showdown Guardado kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired to help the Thunderbirds defeat Montwood, 27-24. Coronado won its fourth straight game.
- Ledger Merritt, RB, El Paso High. In 41-38 loss to Burges, Merritt rushed for three touchdowns.
- Kylen Green, RB, Franklin. In a victory vs. District 1-6A rival Socorro, Green rushed for four touchdowns in a span of under 11 minutes and finished with 157 yards on 18 carries.
- Sebastian Blakely-Rojo, PK, Andress. In victory vs. Irvin, Blakely-Rojo made all nine of his extra points and connected on a 50-yard field goal as the Eagles improved to 6-0.
- Joe Fernandez, QB, Pebble Hills. In 35-31 win vs. Eastwood in District 1-6A matchup, Fernandez threw two touchdown passes in the final 6:04 of the game to help the Spartans win.
- Davion Hurell, QB, Montwood. In 27-24 loss vs. Coronado, Hurell passed for 281 yards and threw three touchdowns.
- Jacobo Chavez, QB, Chapin. In victory vs. Jefferson, Chavez completed 15 of 17 passes for 239 yards with four touchdown passes.
- Rodrigo Martinez, QB, Ysleta. In victory vs. Bowie, Martinez threw five touchdown passes and had 216 yards passing.
- David Angel Monks, RB, Cathedral. In win vs. Tornillo, Monkshad 12 carries for 226 yards and scored six touchdowns.
- Adrian Cisneros-Rodriguez, Pebble Hills cross country. He finished seventh at the Lubbock Invite.
- Mateo Diaz, Hanks cross country. He finished ninth at the Lubbock Invite.
