An El Paso man is making headlines for a small act of kindness after mailing money to a Los Angeles restaurant because he couldn't remember whether he had left a tip.
Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant shared the story on its official Instagram page, posting a letter sent by Roberto Jose Andrade from El Paso.
"Roberto drove home from Langer’s a few weeks ago and couldn’t shake one nagging question: did he leave a tip? He was pretty sure he did. Pretty sure wasn’t good enough," the restaurant wrote.
According to the post, Andrade mailed the tip to the restaurant and included details about when he visited and where he sat in hopes staff could identify the server who had waited on him.
The restaurant said Andrade had previously worked in the service
industry and understood how much tips can matter.
"He used to bus tables and wait tables himself. His sister did too. He knows exactly what that money means to the person carrying the plates," the restaurant wrote.
Staff were eventually able to track down the server and give her the money.
"We found her. She got it. And she was floored," the restaurant wrote. "Roberto, thank you for going out of your way to do the right thing when nobody would have known otherwise. Your table’s always ready here."
The story also prompted plenty of praise for El Paso in the comments.
"My mama was from El Paso. Kind generous people come from El Paso. I was taught that at a young age," one person wrote.
Another commenter added, "I’m from El Paso and this is a beautiful representation of the honest, kind, hardworking people of El Chuco."
