New polling shows a mixed bag for candidates in the Texas U.S. Senate race.
A new poll from the AARP found that while Democrat James Talarico maintains a solid lead in the U.S. Senate contest, voters over 50 are leaning solidly toward Paxton. Talarico bested Paxton by four points, 48% to 44%, across the board, but 53% of voters over 50 said they plan to vote for Paxton.
The poll was conducted by the bipartisan team of right-leaning Fabrizio Ward and left-leaning Impact Research among 895 likely Texas voters between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.
As has been the case throughout the General Election campaign, Talarico continues to lead among independent voters, with a 43-point lead over Paxton among Independents under 50. Likewise, he continues to lead among Hispanic
voters by a two-to-one margin and among Black voters by 57 points.
Paxton, however, maintains an 18-point lead among white voters.
When it comes to favorability, Talarico continues to outpace Paxton — 42% of respondents view Talarico favorably versus 35% unfavorably, compared to 35% who view Paxton favorably and 46% who view him unfavorably.
When it comes to key issues among Texas voters, 42% ranked rising prices and affordability as the number one issue, followed by 28% who cited immigration and border security as a key issue, and 24% who ranked taxes, government spending and debt as their top concern.
