A vehicle fire blocked northbound traffic on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge for motorists traveling from Manatee County toward St. Petersburg on Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP troopers and fire rescue crews responded to the fire involving a Verizon work van near mile marker 11, on the north side of the bridge heading toward St. Petersburg.
Northbound traffic was blocked because of heavy smoke as of 9:25 a.m. Aug. 31, FHP spokesperson Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.
No injuries were reported.
Additional information, including what caused the fire and when the northbound lanes would reopen, was not immediately available.
