Starbucks is closing a Sarasota location. The store is one of nine Florida Starbucks locations closing and among 250 nationwide.
It is the second major round of closings in a year for the coffee chain, which shut down hundreds of stores in late 2025.
The company announced the latest round of closings on Sept. 24.
In a letter explaining the decision, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams wrote that while most locations are thriving, some are underperforming, "despite the hard work and commitment of all of you."

"We’re making this decision for a simple reason: We want every Starbucks coffeehouse to be a place customers love and partners are proud to work," Grams wrote.

The Starbucks at 5329 Fruitville Road in Sarasota
is closing, according to the store's locator tool. The store is among nine locations closing in Florida.
While Starbucks has not confirmed the store's closing, the location no longer appears on the Starbucks store locator as of Sept. 29, and Google lists it as "permanently closed."

According to Starbucks’ store locator tool, here are the eight other coffee shops closing in Florida:

Why Starbucks is closing stores nationwide?
According to Grams' letter, Starbucks is closing underperforming stores.
"We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance," Grams wrote. "As a result, we will close approximately 250 coffeehouses later this week. This represents approximately 1% of our more than 18,000 North America coffeehouses."
What happens to workers and customers?
Employees may be able to transfer to another location, according to Grams.
"We’re speaking directly with impacted partners and will support them through this transition, including transfer opportunities wherever possible. For partners we are unable to place in another coffeehouse, we will provide severance support."
