A downtown Sarasota restaurant has closed, but its owners plan to debut a new concept in the same space.
Mitchell's Food and Wine will open at 1660 Main St. in the former home of Lucile Pizza & Wine Bar,
with plans to open in mid-October, according to a press release. The new restaurant will feature the same owners as Lucile, Ryan Boeve and Mark Baldwin.
Mitchell’s Food and Wine will pay homage to Boeve’s previous restaurants, Pomona Bistro and Zoria. While pizza will remain part of the menu, it will branch out into other dishes, with highlights including braised short rib brasato with cipollini onion jam, potato purée and red wine jus, and Florida yellowtail snapper with leeks, chard, olive oil, brown butter and lemon.
“We’re getting everyone involved,” Boeve said in a statement. “You will see chefs delivering food and conversing with guests, and our front-of-house staff will know how to cook every dish on the menu.”
The restaurant’s updated décor will draw inspiration from Art Deco, mid-century modern design and personal nostalgia, creating an atmosphere that blends classic influences with a contemporary Sarasota feel, according to the release.
Lucile opened in late 2020 and served wood-fired pizzas, pasta dishes, soup, salads and sides. Like nearby downtown Sarasota restaurant Lila, which Boeve formerly owned and remains open, the menu also offered several plant-based options, with pizza toppings such as cashew mozzarella, almond ricotta and vegan pepperoni, sausage and bacon.
Earlier this year, shortly before closing, Lucile expanded its menu to offer lunch, serving a selection of sandwiches.
Lucile joins other recent downtown Sarasota restaurant closures such as Brick's Smoked Meats, Indigenous and Fork & Hen.
Mitchell's Food and Wine will join downtown openings including Sorella, Tastes of the Philippines, Baldoria and Sarasocial in the former Fork & Hen space.
