While the Sarasota area concert scene won't be quite as busy this week with all the Labor Day weekend events going on, there'll be at least a few notable shows, including the grand opening celebration for a venue.
Venue 1927, named for its 1927 Ringling Blvd. address in the historic Charles Ringling Building in downtown Sarasota, will hold a grand opening featuring a Grammy-nominated group.
Sarasota's Encore Live, which also opened earlier this year, will host a Blues Music Award-winning performer from here in Florida, while Venice's Troll Music — which often showcases skilled guitarists in its concert calendar — will welcome one such artist from Germany. Although it's a little
further away in Clearwater, here's a show that might be of interest to Sarasota area concertgoers: Singer-songwriter, guitarist and Bradenton native Dylan Cotrone will open for fellow Floridians Yellowcard (of "Ocean Avenue" fame) on Friday at The BayCare Sound. Cotrone, who headlined Fire Charity Festival earlier this year, splits his time between Bradenton and Los Angeles, as he details in his song "Florida California (State of Mind)."
Siggno
The Grammy-nominated, Santa Rosa, Texas-based group Siggno will return to Sarasota for a grand opening concert for Venue 1927 in downtown Sarasota. Playing the regional Mexican music of norteño and Tejano, Siggno have earned two Grammy nominations: Best Tejano Album for 2002's "Por Amor" and Best Norteño Album for 2008's "Six Pack," with both categories since discontinued and replaced with Best Música Mexicana Album (including Tejano.)

Alexandr Misko
Venice's Troll Music will welcome German-based guitarist, composer and arranger Alexandr Misko for a concert Friday. Misko's YouTube channel currently has more than a million subscribers thanks to fingerstyle guitar covers of songs such as George Michael's "Careless Whisper," which has around 22 million views (and appears in a new recording on this year's album "Final Boss.")
He also performed a medley of Hans Zimmer music with harpist Alexander Boldachev (who Misko joined at Carnegie Hall in 2020), and last year, Misko worked with Zimmer himself on the score to the German series "Black Gold." Selwyn Birchwood
Florida blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Selwyn Birchwood will perform another Sarasota area show at Encore Live, which opened earlier this year. Birchwood is signed to Alligator Records, releasing his latest album "Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues" earlier this year on the esteemed blues label.
He previously won a Best New Artist Debut Blues Music Award for 2014's "Don't Call No Ambulance," and Song of the Year for "I'd Climb Mountains" off 2021's "Living in a Burning House." 6 p.m. doors, 7 p.m. show Friday; Encore Live, 8341 N.
