According to a recent Herald-Tribune story, if Amendment 3 passes, we will all be victims of mosquito-borne illnesses ("Sarasota braces for Amendment 3 with spending cuts and new budgets," Oct. 5).
This is in addition to: our libraries being forced to close – and our public safety coming under serious threat because of possible cuts to fire and police services.
It makes you wonder how Sarasota County survived – and prospered – two years ago, since the reduction to county taxes caused by Amendment 3 would simply take us back to that level of funding.
By the way, the county's tax income in 2024 had increased substantially over the previous five years – far exceeding population growth and inflation.
Despite all of your articles on Amendment 3's impact,
I am still waiting to see a fair and explanatory rendering of this fact.
