The midway point for the high school volleyball season is here, and teams, players and coaches have established themselves.
Riverview is ranked the best in the area. After starting 1-2, the Rams have won
their last seven. Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, Venice and Bradenton Christian are also off to strong starts. While Cardinal Mooney faced some early-season struggles, the Cougars won seven of their last nine matches.
There are still several matches left in the regular season, but here is the volleyball midseason report, recognizing how teams, players and coaches stand in the midseason.

MIDSEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Addelyn VanDuinen, Bradenton Christian
VanDuinen — who does a little bit of everything for the Panthers — has 131 kills, 162 assists, 88 digs and 23 aces this season. She's helped BCS to an 8-5 record. The junior Wofford commit was named to the Herald-Tribune's Elite 11. In 2025, the 6-foot opposite hitter/outside hitter had 235 kills, 213 digs, 324 assists, 53 aces and 16 blocks in 72 sets.
IN CONTENTION
Lyla Bailey, Riverview
Through seven matches and 25 sets, Bailey recorded 65 kills, 80 digs and eight aces with a .234 hit percentage. After starting 1-2, Bailey was pivotal in huge wins against Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota and Charlotte. The Rams (7-2) are currently on a six-game win streak with help from Bailey. The 5-foot-11 senior was named to the Herald-Tribune's Elite 11 list after recording 235 kills, 268 digs, 34 aces and nine blocks in 74 sets in 2025.
Liza Collier, Sarasota
Collier, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter, has 114 kills, 33 digs, 27 aces and nine blocks this season, helping Sarasota to a 7-5 record after a 9-15 finish last season. Collier was named to the Herald-Tribune's Elite 11 after a dominant junior year. In 2025, Collier had 201 kills, 46 digs, 14 aces and six assists in 62 sets. She also added eight blocks.
Charlee Hermann, Cardinal Mooney
Herman — a 6-foot-2 outside hitter — has 81 kills, 56 digs and six aces with a .179 hitting percentage this season. Mooney is 10-5 with Hermann's help. The senior was named to the Herald-Tribune's Elite 11 list. In 2025, Hermann recorded 214 kills, 125 digs, 41 aces and 15 blocks in 61 sets, helping Cardinal Mooney to a 15-11 record.
Alysa Jones, Parrish Community
Jones, a 5-foot-11 senior, has 90 kills, 40 digs, 14 solo blocks, 10 block assists, 12 aces and 91 points on 172 service attempts. The middle/outside hitter has helped Parrish to an 8-5 record.
Adalynn Lund, Lakewood Ranch
Lund has 80 kills, 14 aces, 41 blocks 110 digs, 145 assists and 47 receptions this season. She's helped Lakewood Ranch to a 9-4 record. Last season, Lund had 158 kills, 269 digs, 369 assists, 36 aces and 13 blocks.
MIDSEASON UNDERCLASSMAN OF THE YEAR
Claire Truong, Lakewood Ranch
Truong has 40 kills, nine aces, 38 blocks and 29 digs with a .387 hitting percentage this season. This is the junior middle-blocker/right-side hitter's first year on varsity.
IN CONTENTION
Gracie Cody, Cardinal Mooney
Cody, a sophomore, has 34 kills, 21 digs and two blocks with a .129 hitting percentage this season. Last season, Cody played 26 sets, recording 14 kills, 16 aces, 11 aces and two blocks.
Grace Hullinger, Bradenton Christian
Hullinger has 100 kills, 170 assists, 27 aces and 80 digs this season. The junior setter/right-side hitter played on varsity in 2025.
Kinsey Judge, Venice
The sophomore has a team-high 66 kills, adding 41 digs, seven aces and six blocks with a .195 hitting percentage. Judge was named to the Herald-Tribune's Elite 11 after recording 45 kills, 69 digs, 16 aces and two blocks in 48 sets during her freshman season. In the spring, Judge was also named the Herald-Tribune's beach volleyball player of the year, alongside her partner, Ana Julia Villamajor.
Hailey Lane, Sarasota
In her first season on varsity, Lane has 165 assists, 36 digs and 16 aces. The sophomore setter also has seven kills.
Ana Julia Villamajor, Venice
Villamajor, a junior outside hitter, has 41 kills, 102 digs and 17 aces. In the spring, Villamajor was named the Herald-Tribune's beach volleyball player of the year, alongside her partner Kinsey Judge.
MIDSEASON COACH OF THE YEAR
To open the season, Mocherman purposely made Riverview's schedule difficult, slating the Rams to play the toughest teams in the area early. Riverview faced Charlotte, Venice, Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota in two weeks. And while Riverview was swept by Charlotte and Venice, leading to a 1-2 start, the team rebounded. The Rams beat Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota in Week 3. On Sept. 12, they avenged their loss, beating Charlotte on the road in five sets. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Riverview swept Lakewood Ranch. Since taking over in 2023, Mocherman has continued to improve Riverview volleyball, coaching his team to 10-12, 15-9 and 11-15 seasons. He's been teaching at Riverview since 2001.
MIDSEASON TEAM RANKINGS
Games played through Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
1. Riverview (6-2)
Last week: Defeated Braden River 3-0 and Charlotte 3-2.
Analysis: After beginning the season 1-2, Riverview has won its last five matches against some of the best teams in the area, including Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, Braden River and Charlotte. Senior Lyla Bailey has been pivotal in these wins. Bailey has 80 digs, 65 kills and a .234 hitting percentage across Riverview's first seven matches.
2. Lakewood Ranch (9-3)
Last week: Defeated Lemon Bay 3-0.
Analysis: After starting 7-1, Lakewood Ranch struggled in Week 3, falling to top-ranked Riverview and Braden River (3-5). On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Mustangs swept Lemon Bay (3-6). Junior setter Adalynn Lund has 80 kills, 14 aces, 41 blocks, 110 digs, 147 assists and 47 receptions through 12 matches.
3. Bradenton Christian (8-4)
Last week: Defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 3-2.
Analysis: Since Sept. 4, Bradenton Christian has played in six matches, competing in the BCS Showcase tournament. The Panthers finished 3-2 in the tournament, falling to Newsome (8-4) and IMG Academy White (6-3). On Tuesday, Sept. 8, Bradenton Christian swept Clearwater Central Catholic. Junior Addelyn VanDuinen has 131 kills, 162 assists, 23 aces and 88 digs.
4. Sarasota (7-4)
Last week: Defeated Saint Stephen's 3-0.
Analysis: Sarasota competed in the BCS Showcase tournament on Sept. 4-5, finishing 2-3. The Sailors fell to IMG Academy White, Northside Christian and IMG Academy Black. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Sarasota responded with a sweep over Saint Stephen's. Senior Liza Collier has 114 kills, 33 digs, 27 aces and nine blocks.
5. Venice (5-2)
Last week: Defeated Braden River 3-0 and Lemon Bay 3-0.
Analysis: After a difficult Week 3, Venice responded in Week 4, earning two sweeps. Sophomore Kinsey Judge leads with 66 kills, while junior Ana Julia Villamajor has a team-best 102 digs. Junior Beckett Hammers has 116 assists, while senior Amelia Anselmi has 116.
6. Cardinal Mooney (10-4)
Last week: Defeated Port Charlotte 3-0, Chapin 2-0, IMG Academy White 2-1, Archbishop Carroll 2-0, IMG Academy Black 2-0 and Strawberry Crest 2-0.
Analysis: Following a 2-3 start, Cardinal Mooney has dominated over the last two weeks in various tournaments, leading to a 10-4 record. Since Sept. 4, Mooney has won 10 of its 11 matches. Senior Charlee Hermann leads with 81 kills, 56 digs and six aces.
7. Out-of-Door Academy (9-3)
Last week: Defeated Sarasota Christian 3-1 and Bell Creek Academy 3-1.
Analysis: ODA has lost one of its last six matches, falling to Saint Stephen's on the road 3-1. Sophomore Alex Beasley leads with 131 kills. Junior Isla Paterson has a team-high 111 digs, while freshman Charlie Birdsall has 347 assists across 38 sets.
8. Parrish Community (7-5)
Last week: Defeated Manatee 3-0 and North Port 3-0.
Analysis: Parrish Community is on a three-win streak, defeating Saint Stephen's, Manatee and North Port. The Bulls competed in the BCS Showcase, defeating Sarasota Christian 2-0, DeSoto County 2-0 and Saint Stephen's 2-0. They lost to Indian Rocks 2-0 and Bradenton Christian 2-1.
9. Saint Stephen's (6-6)
Last week: Fell to Sarasota 3-0.
Analysis: In the BCS Showcase tournament, Saint Stephen's struggled, falling to Cardinal Mooney, IMG Academy Black, IMG Academy White and Parrish Community. During the tournament, the Falcons' only win came against Tampa Catholic. In Week 4, Saint Stephen's was swept by Sarasota.
10. Braden River (3-5)
Last week: Lost to Venice 3-0 and Riverview 3-0. Defeated Palmetto 3-0.
Analysis: Braden River picked up a huge 3-2 win over Lakewood Ranch in Week 3, but was swept by top-ranked Riverview and powerhouse Venice. The Pirates rebounded with a win over Palmetto (5-9).
