Olympic figure skating champion Nancy Kerrigan will anchor a Catholic Charities fundraiser to benefit Our Mother's House on Nov. 9 at Michael's on East in Sarasota.
For more than 40 years, Our Mother’s House has helped more than 600 mothers and their children break the cycle of poverty and move toward stable, independent lives. The program provides transitional housing for single mothers and their children under age 4 along with behavioral health counseling, life-skills education, career and educational opportunities, and essential support.
Kerrigan is a two-time U.S. national champion who won a bronze medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, and a silver medal at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics in Norway. A mother of three, Kerrigan understands
the importance of providing mothers and children with the support, stability and opportunities they need to build a brighter future.
“Every mother who walks through our doors comes with her own story, her own challenges and, most importantly, the hope for something better for her children,” said Celia Kane, program manager of Our Mother’s House. “The support of our community makes it possible for us to walk alongside these mothers as they work toward that future. Fundraisers like this are essential to ensuring we can continue providing the housing, counseling and resources that help families create lasting change.”
During the luncheon, Kerrigan will share her personal story of perseverance and overcoming adversity, offering an inspiring perspective on resilience, determination and finding the strength to keep moving forward.
