This week's Sarasota-area concert picks might not have the surprising star power of last week's lineup, but there are still some notable shows, including two that had sold out as of press time.
Those two shows are a virtuoso Italian guitarist visiting Venice's Troll Music, and a Monday Night Jazz Cabaret show at downtown Sarasota's Florida Studio Theatre celebrating classic songs written by bassists and Hispanic composers.
There will also be a musician with ties to blues-rock royalty playing at Fogartyville in Sarasota, and a record label throwing a punk/indie music prom with an annual concert at Oscura in Bradenton. Here are this week's highlights. Event details are subject to change.
plus info on things to do every Friday
Alberto Lombardi

Venice's Troll Music, which often showcases skilled guitarists in its concert lineup, will welcome Italian acoustic fingerstyle and electric rock guitarist Alberto Lombardi on Friday. Lombardi has shared stages with renowned acoustic guitarist Tommy Emmanuel in Italy, and taught at Emmanuel's Guitar Camp Roma.
Lombardi's 2022 album "Through the Years" features mainly acoustic fingerstyle renditions of Beatles songs, Motown classics such as Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," and Supertramp's "Breakfast in America," as well as originals. 7:30 p.m. Friday; Troll Music, 628 E. Venice Ave., Venice; sold out as of press time; 941-484-8765; trollmusic.com
Deathbed Prom Vol. III

High school may have just started up again, but you can already go to prom at this annual concert hosted by Oscura and Bradenton indie label Deathbed Records. Bradenton punk/emo band Spanish Bombs, whose member Jake Pinkney runs Deathbed Records, will perform at the event along with Tampa's Social Wreckage (who opened for Underoath at their farewell show at now-sadly closed Ybor venue Crowbar) and The Librarians, and Sarasota's nowincolor.
The event will also feature prom court nominations and a photobooth, with prom attire encouraged. 6 p.m. doors, 7 p.m. show Friday; Oscura, 816 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton; free/pay-what-you-want ages 21 and up, $10 under age 21; oscura.live
Will Johns Band

Fogartyville will feature a musician with ties to blues-rock royalty when it welcomes Will Johns on Saturday. Johns' father is sound engineer Andy Johns and his mother Paula Boyd is the sister of Pattie and Jenny Boyd, who were formerly married to George Harrison and Eric Clapton, and Mick Fleetwood, respectively.
Along with his solo work, Johns has played in bands including Glyda with Jesse Wood (son of the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood) and Cream of Clapton (with Noah East, son of Nathan East, who's played bass with Eric Clapton.) 7 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. show Saturday; Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota; $30, $25 members, $15 students ages 13 and up; 941-894-6469; fogartyville.org
Alejandro Arenas

Jazz Club of Sarasota's Monday Night Jazz Cabaret series, held in Florida Studio Theatre's John C. Court Cabaret, will continue with Alejandro Arenas. The bassist plays in Tampa Bay trio La Lucha, which is known for its renditions of songs one might not associate with jazz, with their 2009 debut "A Cup of Fuzzy Water" featuring covers of Deftones' "Change (In the House of Flies)" and Britney Spears' "Toxic."
At this show, he'll celebrate jazz classics written by bassists and Hispanic composers, including original arrangements of Bob Haggart’s “What’s New,” Sam Jones’ “Unit 7,” Juan Tizol’s “Caravan," and María Grever’s “What a Diff'rence a Day Made.” 6:30 p.m. doors, dinner/drinks, 7:30 p.m. show Monday; John C. Court Cabaret, 1265 First St., Sarasota; sold out as of press time; 941-260-9951; jazzclubofsarasota.org
