Buchanan right on funding focus
U.S. Rep Vern Buchanan recently wrote a Herald-Tribune guest column reliving his experience on Sept. 11, 2001, and how it created a need for new legislation and funding for the agencies that protect us ("I stood on a Sarasota runway as America changed forever," Sept. 11).
This brings to my mind the vote we will cast in November regarding the Amendment 3 property tax proposal
.To summarize Buchanan: “We need sustained funding for the agencies that protect us.”
Please, vote "No" on Amendment 3.

Within Patriot Plaza you can see all the headstones as well as photographs capturing whispers that might otherwise go unheard.
Sit on any of the stone benches.
Let your mind wander.
There is so much more to Patriotic Plaza.
Plus, admission is free – including guided tours.
Stroll by yourself or mingle with others.
The choice is yours to choose.
And maybe saying a “Thank You” to the tombstones would be a thoughtful gesture.

Where is Congress?
Congress is supposed to impose tariffs, not President Donald Trump.
The Supreme Court has ruled the president cannot impose tariffs on his own.
Congress should be able to overrule Trump's issuing of tariffs.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to destroy the United States' relationship with Canada.
So where is Congress?
Where is it?
It must stop this incompetent madman.
