Underdogs took down giants in Week 3 of the volleyball season.
Top-ranked Lakewood Ranch lost both of its matches in Week 3 to Riverview and Braden River. Riverview is surging, taking down the Mustangs and Sarasota in Week 3. Venice had an off week, while Saint Stephen's and Sarasota Christian came away unscathed.
Here are the volleyball rankings through Week 3:
Matches played through Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.
1. Lakewood Ranch (8-3)
Last week: Fell to Riverview 3-1 and Braden River 3-2.
Analysis: Lakewood Ranch struggled in Week 3, falling to Riverview in four sets and Braden River in five on the road. Still, despite the losses, the Mustangs are one of the most talented teams in the area. Junior Adalynn Lund leads with 63 kills and 116 assists. Senior Adrienne McMillan
has a team high 12 aces, while sophomore Brynn DeFoor leads has a team-best 87 kills.
2. Sarasota (4-1)
Last week: Defeated Parrish Community 3-2. Fell to Riverview 3-2.
Analysis: Sarasota finished 1-1 in Week 3, playing five sets in both matches. Senior Liza Collier leads with 38 kills and 20 aces. Senior Gemma Mulhollen has 17 blocks, and senior Sydney Mullen has a team best 88 digs. Sophomore Hailey Lane has 61 assists.
3. Saint Stephen's (5-1)
Last week: Defeated ODA 3-1, Palmetto 3-1.
Analysis: Saint Stephen's has continued to dominate in Week 3. Junior Olivia Ierulli leads with 68 kills. Junior Madyson Boling has a team-high 128 assists and 25 aces. Senior Karlah Benzan has 79 digs.
4. Riverview (4-2)
Last week: Defeated Lakewood Ranch 3-1 and Sarasota 3-2.
Analysis: Riverview had its best week of the season, defeating the top two teams in the area. After defeating Lakewood Ranch, head coach Jason Mocherman said he intentionally scheduled hard teams early, hoping to expose Riverview's weaknesses and fix them. And it looks like Mocherman has found some solutions.
5. Venice (3-2)
Last week: Lost to Bradenton Christian 3-1 and Seacrest Country Day 3-1.
Analysis: Venice struggled in Week 3, falling in both matches. Sophomore Kinsey Judge has a team-high 48 kills. Junior Ana Julia Villamajor has 78 digs and 12 aces. Junior Beckett Hammers leads with 95 assists.
6. Bradenton Christian (4-2)
Last week: Defeated Venice 3-1, Braden River 3-0 and Palmetto 3-0.
Analysis: Bradenton Christian has continued to stack wins in Week 3. Junior Addelyn VanDuinen — who is committed to Wofford — has continued to lead the team.
7. Out-of-Door Academy (6-3)
Last week: Defeated Lakewood Ranch Prep 3-0. Lost to Saint Stephen's 3-1.
Analysis: ODA had a solid Week 3. Sophomore Alex Beasley has continued to be a standout for the Thunder, who leads in kills and aces.
8. Parrish Community (2-3)
Last week: Lost to Sarasota 3-2.
Analysis: Senior Khyler Reed leads with 49 kills, 45 assists and 18 aces. Senior Alexis Gallagher has 85 digs.
9. Braden River (2-3)
Last week: Lost to Bradenton Christian 3-0. Defeated Lakewood Ranch 3-2.
Analysis: Braden River had a huge win against Lakewood Ranch in Week 3 at home. It was the Pirates' biggest win of the season so far.
10. North Port (3-2)
Last week: Defeated Imagine School at North Port 3-0. Lost to Port Charlotte 3-1 and DeSoto County 3-0.
Analysis: North Port dropped its last two matches after having three in a row in Week 3. Sophomore Tatiana Boyarkina and junior Kali Williams lead the team with 30 kills each. Senior Mya Bright has 42 digs, and senior Sarah Martinez has a team-best 68 assists.
