I am voting "Yes" on theAmendment 3 property tax proposal on Nov. 3.
Voting "Yes" should cause a thorough examination and reassesment of how local taxes are spent.
The taxes have doubled in Manatee and Sarasota counties over the past five years, and they must be reduced for permanent residents.
I am comfortable with increasing tax bills for part-time residents and visitors.
I do welcome them, but I want far fewer of them clogging roads, health care services, restaurants and beaches.
Fewer part-time residents would also slow the pace of real estate development.
Yes, my property value may continue to decline.
But that would be short-term pain in exchange for a better long-term quality of life.
