Authorities identified the woman who died after high surf dragged her into the water along Highway 1 near Point Mugu in Ventura County on Oct. 14.
Kaylee J. Molina, 30, was from Santa Teresa, New Mexico, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. She drowned and her death was ruled an accident.
Molina was reportedly sitting on the rocks near Sycamore Cove Beach around 11:40 a.m. when heavy surf dragged her and a man she was sitting with into the water, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office previously reported.
The two became stuck on the rocks as waves continuously battered the pair, officials said.
The man was eventually able to drag Molina to the beach where he called 911, sheriff’s officials said.
Despite lifesaving measures, she
was pronounced dead at the scene.
Molina’s family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs. As of Oct. 24, the page had raised $10,505 of its $15,000 goal.
