An Oak Park man pleaded not guilty to felony first-degree residential burglary in Ventura County Superior Court Sept. 10 for allegedly burglarizing a Camarillo home a month earlier.
The 45-year-old also denied special allegations, including that he had a prior felony strike, according to court records. Such allegations can bring increased jail time during sentencing if found true.
On Aug. 5, deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at a home in the 5300 block of Heather Street and found that it had been broken into in the early morning hours, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Detectives obtained footage from a neighbor’s private security camera of a pickup in the area believed to be associated with the burglary,
officials said. The footage was grainy, and they couldn't identify a license plate number or the burglar.
Investigators were later able to identify the vehicle using automated license plate reader cameras to search for the vehicle in the area, the sheriff’s office said.
The vehicle was registered to the 45-year-old Oak Park man, officials said. Investigators executed a search warrant at the man’s home Sept. 8 and found evidence linking him to the burglary, the sheriff’s office said.
He was booked into Ventura County jail with bail set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 14, court records show.
