An Oxnard man was sentenced to a year in county jail and probation for domestic violence charges, according to authorities.
Armando Liborio De La Mora was sentenced on Aug. 25 after pleading guilty to five domestic violence charges, according to a Ventura County District Attorney's Office news release. He previously pleaded guilty June 18 to offenses including two felony counts of inflicting corporal injury on a girlfriend, one felony count of false imprisonment by violence.
De La Mora also admitted to aggravating circumstances for each of the felony counts, officials said.
On May 19, 2025, the Oxnard man and his girlfriend were at his residence when during an argument, De La Mora blocked her from leaving and slapped her repeatedly before throwing
a full, 40-ounce metal water bottle at her back, the DA's office said.
The woman called police, but she feared possible retaliation from De La Mora and did not speak to police officers. After going back inside the home, De La Mora confronted her about calling the police and threatened to kill her and slid a knife under the bathroom door while she hid inside, the release says.
When the woman attempted to leave, De La Mora took her phone, threw her to the ground and repeatedly struck, punched and kicked her, officials said.
The woman escaped through a back door, called a relative and Oxnard Police Department officers responded, the DA's office said. De La Mora was arrested and the woman was treated at the hospital for her injuries.
While in custody, De La Mora tried to contact the woman, the release says. After bailing out of jail, he later approached the woman at a Ventura bar despite the existence of a restraining order.
