A stretch of Highway 33 north of Ojai will shut down next weekend for tunnel repairs, officials said.
The California Department of Transportation announced the 55-hour closure of the road, which winds through
the Los Padres National Forest. All lanes will shut down in both directions , starting at 10 p.m. Aug. 28, for repairs that include reinforcing steel panels and patching concrete for three tunnels in the area.

The closure will affect the public, including residents, spanning from post mile 18.2 near Wheeler Gorge to post mile 19, just south of the Wheeler Gorge campground. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed on the road, Caltrans said.
The state highway is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Aug. 31. Authorities suggest what could be an hourslong detour that takes drivers from Highway 126 to Interstate 5 over the Grapevine to Highway 166 and back to Highway 33 from the north.
