A motorcyclist struck by a truck on Esplanade Drive in Oxnard Sept. 3 died hours later at the hospital.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded to the crash in the 200 block of Esplanade Drive around 4:21 p.m., according to a police department news release.
Police found a motorcyclist along with his bike pinned underneath the front of a Chevrolet Silverado, officials said. They pulled the man out, and he was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.
Police were notified by the hospital around 10:26 p.m. that the motorcyclist, a 22-year-old Santa Paula man, died from his injuries.
An initial investigation showed that the Silverado driver, a 61-year-old Oxnard man, was making a left turn onto Esplanade Drive
from the shopping center when he crashed head-on with the motorcycle driving westbound on Esplanade.
The motorcycle and its rider were pinned underneath the truck, which continued eastbound for a short distance before the Oxnard man stopped and called police, officials said.
The truck driver stayed on scene and was evaluated for impairment, police said.
The police department is investigating the crash and does not believe the driver was impaired. Investigators are unsure if speed was a factor in the crash.
Anyone who may have information about the crash is urged to call the department at 805-385-7600.
