The fall season approaches, and with it comes a change in weather and time for the Golden State.
As heat persists across the state — but especially in Southern California — many residents are hoping the new season brings cooler temperatures. And it just might.

When is fall?
Fall starts with the Autumnal Equinox.
This year, the equinox falls on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 8:04 a.m. EDT, or Sept. 22, at 11:04 a.m. PST, according to Almanac.com.
The Winter Solstice lands on Monday, Dec. 21, at 3:50 p.m. EST or 6:50 p.m. PST for California.
What is the fall forecast for California?
The Old Farmer's Almanac released its fall forecast for the entire U.S. earlier this year, and hit predicts a pretty different experience for the northern and southern parts of California.
The Pacific Southwest,
including most of SoCal, is forecast to have a cool and dry fall. September temperatures are expected to average near normal, and slightly cool in October, the Almanac says. Rainfall may increase slightly in the northern areas, while the south will be drier than average.
The Pacific Northwest will experience a cool and wet fall, the almanac says. September could see as much as three inches more rainfall than usual.
When is daylight savings 2026?
The clock "falls back" one hour during the fall and "springs forward" in the spring, meaning that at 2 a.m. on Nov. 1, the clock will turn back to 1 a.m.
This change means that Californians celebrating Halloween will get an extra hour that night.
