A 35-year-old man arrested in Goleta Aug. 20 is believed tied to an attempted murder in Santa Paula that morning.
Officers with the Santa Paula Police Department were called shortly before 11 a.m. to a property in the 18000 block of East Telegraph Road for a report of a woman suffering from a head injury. The 65-year-old woman was found outside with life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said in a news release.
Around 12:15 p.m., Christopher Lample, of Honolulu, was taken into custody in Goleta by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies with the aid of automated license plate readers, Santa Paula police said. Sheriff's deputies picked up an alert about Lample's vehicle and pulled him over when his
car was spotted, police said.
Santa Paula police said in the news release they believed Lample was trying to flee by air or other transportation and avoid arrest.
He was transferred back to Santa Paula police and booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of felony attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse as well as a misdemeanor for destroying or concealing evidence, according to jail records.
Lample is being held on $2 million bail and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court Aug. 24.
