An eight-vehicle crash in Oxnard on Sept. 25 left two men dead and several others injured.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded to the crash at the intersection of Victoria and Doris avenues around 3:54 p.m., according to a department news release.
Police and Emergency Medical Services responding to the scene found a 1998 Toyota Avalon and a 2005 Honda Civic with their drivers trapped inside, police said.
The drivers, a 31-year-old man and a 58-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The two men were from Oxnard.
Four other people suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals, officials said.
An initial investigation found that a 29-year-old Santa Paula resident was driving his 2018 GMC Sierra
northbound on Victoria Avenue when he ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the Civic and Avalon, which were driving westbound on Doris, police said.
The crash slammed the Toyota northbound into Victoria Avenue, hitting a Southern California Edison pole in the center divider. The pole fell onto the Toyota.
The Toyota rolled forward after hitting the pole and crashed into a Chevy Volt, which had been driving southbound on Victoria and was in the left turn lane towards Doris, officials said.
The Honda and GMC became airborne after the initial crash, with the GMC coming to a rest on the center median of Victoria, police said. The Honda rolled over the side and roof of a Nissan Rogue, which was stopped in the southbound left-turn lane of Victoria.
As both vehicles landed, they collided with a GMC Terrain, also southbound in the left-turn lane of Victoria, officials said. The Terrain was pushed back, hitting a 2010 Ford Fusion and a 2025 Toyota RAV4 waiting behind it.
Investigators believe that speed and impairment due to drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash, police said. No arrests have been made.
