A Newbury Park man was charged with several felony theft-related offenses in Ventura County Superior Court on Oct. 8 after an investigation found that he allegedly committed a series of mail thefts in Thousand Oaks.
The 34-year-old man has been charged with over a dozen felonies in separate cases since February including grand theft, identity theft, possession of a hard drug, and forgery of a check, according to court records.
The most recent charges stem from a monthslong investigation that started in July into at least 15 calls of mail theft in Thousand Oaks, according to a Ventura County Sheriff's Office news release.
The sheriff’s office is contracted to provide police services to the city of Thousand Oaks, including the Newbury Park neighborhood.
Investigators identified the vehicle believed to be driven when the crimes were committed and identified the suspect behind the thefts as the Newbury Park man, sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s office also found that he had allegedly committed a series of theft-related offenses earlier this year and was also out on parole for burglary.
On Sept. 10, detectives conducted a warranted search of the 34-year-old’s home and found multiple credit cards, debit cards and blank checks with the names of the victims of the mail thefts, the sheriff’s office said.
On Oct. 4, deputies arrested the man after automated license plate reader cameras found a vehicle associated with the man driving in the Thousand Oaks area, sheriff’s officials said.
He was booked into Ventura County jail with bail set at $200,000. He is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 12.
Investigators believed he could be tied to additional crimes in and out of Ventura County.
