A man involved in an Oxnard car crash that left two people dead pleaded not guilty to murder Oct. 6 in Ventura County Superior Court.
David Mora, 29, of Santa Paula, pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony second-degree murder, one count of felony driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and one count of driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol content causing injury, according to court records.
He also denied all 10 special allegations, including that he caused bodily injury or death to more than one victim and that he had prior drunken driving conviction, court records show. Such allegations can lead to increased prison sentences if found true.
Mora, who remains in Ventura County jail, appeared in court via Zoom, and his
attorney David Lehr entered pleas on his client's behalf.
On Sept. 25, Mora was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra northbound on Victoria Avenue when he allegedly ran a red light at Doris Avenue and crashed into a 2005 Honda Civic and a 1998 Toyota Avalon, according to the Oxnard Police Department.
The collisions caused a series of crashes involving at least five other vehicles. The Honda and Toyota drivers, both men ages 31 and 58, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Four others suffered minor injuries.
Mora turned himself in to Oxnard police Oct. 2, according to police.
Mora remains in Ventura County jail with bail set at $5 million, according to jail and court records. His early disposition conference and preliminary hearing are scheduled for Oct. 15 and 19, respectively.
