Ventura pulls of big rally in fifth set to win volleyball match

• Mia Howard had 14 kills and five aces, Kaiya Howard finished with 10 kills and four blocks, Avery Reed had 12 kills, and Rossilyn Buchanan compiled 21 assists as Ventura
  (2-2) rallied from a 9-0 deficit in the fifth set to pull off a 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 16-14 victory over Valencia in a nonleague match.

• Charley Knupp had eight kills and two aces, Keira Overbeck finished with seven kills, two solo blocks and two aces, and Emmery Reynolds had nine kills and an ace to lead Newbury Park to a 25-23, 25-12, 27-25 sweep of Santa Barbara.
• Sammy Alvarez had six kills and three aces, Teresa Gastelum-Quintanilla had five kills, and Aliyah Adams had four kills, and three blocks to lead Rio Mesa to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 sweep of Hueneme.
• Senior setter Rilee Gosselin finished with 33 assists and seven kills, Kenna Wilson had eight kills, nine digs and six aces, and Lexi Weilbacher had 12 digs to lead Buena to a 19-25, 25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 15-9 victory over Villanova Prep.
• Westlake swept Oxnard 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 to improve to 2-0 on the season. For the Yellowjackets (2-3), Maya Cunningham had 11 kills, eight assists and eight digs and Mila Hernandez finished with 12 assists.
• Ella Ragland had 12 kills, 10 aces and eight digs, Carly Watkins had five kills and four blocks, Abby Buonauro finished with 14 assists, five kills and two aces, and Izzy Irvin had 13 digs and ace to lead Royal (2-1) to a 24-25, 25-17, 25-19, 26-24 win over Chatsworth.
• Aylee Pizzo finished with 20 kills, 10 digs and three aces, Harper Schwartz compiled 11 kills, 16 digs and six aces, Olivia Bruns had eight kills, Emma Goldman had 21 assists, 13 digs and two aces, Payton Redmond contributed 17 assists and two aces, and Kadence Snell amassed 21 assists to lead Agoura to a 25-15, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19 victory over Foothill Tech.
• Camarillo swept Nordhoff in three sets to improve to 3-1 on the season.
• Grace School defeated Del Sol in a five-set marathon, 19-25, 25-18, 19-25, 30-28, 15-13, in the Lancers' home opener.

Wednesday

• Aylee Pizzo had 19 kills and five aces, Harper Schwartz had 11 kills, 10 digs and four aces, Payton Redmond had 16 assists and four aces, and Kadence Snell had four kills and 15 assists for Agoura in its 20-25, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 15-12 loss to Chaminade.

Tuesday

• Ella Ragland finished with 16 kills, and nine aces, Olivia Milano had eight kills and 11 assists, Carly Watkins had six kills, and Maddie Lindfors had 10 digs to lead Royal to a 25-11, 25-17, 27-25 sweep of Oxnard. Maya Cunningham had 12 kills, 11 assists and 11 digs for the Yellowjackets.
• Rossilyn Buchanon had 18 assists and eight digs, Mia Howard compiled 14 kills and six digs, Grace Van Wagner had 13 assists and eight digs, and Ray Lyons had 10 digs and eight kills to lead Ventura to a 11-25,1 7-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-6 victory over Saugus.
• Westlake defeated Moorpark in four sets, 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18.
• Fillmore defeated Santa Clara in four sets, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16.
• Camarillo defeated Calabasas in five sets.

Monday

• Saylor Halvorsen racked up 21 kills, Gwen Hunnicutt finished with 10 kills, Halle Bryce had seven kills, Gio Nugwynne had six kills, Savannah Tung had 20 assists, and Aella Keays added 14 assists to lead Thousand Oaks (3-0) to a 25-8, 25-20, 25-13 sweep of Birmingham.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

Thursday

• Ryanna Harris amassed 182 all-purpose yards, scored four touchdowns and had two of the team's five interceptions and Gigi Tomasino completed 15 of 30 passes for 155 yards and two TDs, rushed for a score, and had two interceptions to led Oxnard (3-3) to a 32-0 win over Newbury Park.
• Brenna Hodge returned an interception for a touchdown and Camilla Rosalez scored a TD to lead Moorpark to a 12-0 win over Oaks Christian.
• Westlake rolled to a 39-6 win over Royal.
• Oak Park earned a 18-13 victory over Chaminade.

Wednesday

• Mia Wright completed 21 of 29 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns, Savanah Williams rushed for a 15-yard TD, Audrey Simic had six receptions for 58 yards and a TD, Stella Jordan had a 60-yard receiving TD, Sofia Knox had six flag pulls, and Gemma Chababi had an interception and a sack to lead Oaks Christian to a 39-12 win over Rio Mesa.

Tuesday

• Camarillo earned a 34-0 shutout of Buena.
• Channel Islands secured a 21-7 win over Newbury Park.
• Santa Paula defeated Golden Valley 20-0.
• Pacifica earned a 34-12 win over Valencia.

BOYS WATER POLO

Thursday

• Marco Sanfelippo, Jake Lev, Danny Shea, JT Thompson, and Luca Saldain scored goals and Noah Conley earned three ejections for Royal in its 12-7 loss to Cate in a season opener.
