A Simi Valley woman was arrested on suspicion of murder for the Sept. 15 crash with a Metro bus that killed two people and injured six others in Chatsworth.
Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, was arrested following the deadly crash in Chatsworth around 5 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.
An initial investigation of the incident found that Rios had been driving a 2004 Ford Expedition southbound in the northbound lanes of De Soto Avenue when she ran a red light at Nordhoff Street and struck a Los Angeles County Transportation Authority bus, or Metro, police said.
The bus was traveling eastbound on De Soto at Nordhoff, officials said. Debris from the crash also damaged a 2024 Honda CR-V.
One passenger was ejected from the bus while
another was partially ejected. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the crash and pronounced both riders dead at the scene, police said.
Six more people were transported to hospitals in the area following the crash, with one transported with severe injuries, police said.
Rios was booked into Los Angeles County jail on Sept. 16 with bail set at $4 million.
Less than two hours after the crash, an NBC Los Angeles helicopter covering the incident went down in a commercial area nearby, killing the two occupants and a pedestrian.
