Camarillo and Oxnard are on a collision course for another all-county CIF-Southern Section Division 1 flag football playoff showdown.
That’s the result of second-round heroics from the Coastal Canyon League and Channel League champions, respectively, on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Chloe Joseph caught the decisive two-point conversion pass and had the game-clinching interception in the final minutes as the Scorpions came from behind to edge host Irvine-Beckman, 26-25.
Freshman Luna Rodriguez threw three TD passes, two to sophomore Jaiden Diaz and one to Isabella Cuevas Gonzalez, whose grab pulled Camarillo within 25-24 with two minutes to play.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Camarillo head coach Robby Gibert. “It’s such a good group of girls. They were down
at half, a little discouraged, and they never stopped. … They kept fighting.”
Ryanna Harris was responsible for 285 yards of total offense and five TDs as the Yellowjackets routed host Temecula-Chaparrel, 36-13, on the road.
The senior quarterback ran for 142 yards and four TDs on 22 carries, completed 10 of 18 passes for 143 yards and a TD and also had an interception on defense.
Harris ran for TDs of 1, 6, 29 and 59 yards and connected with Jazzlene Dominguez for a 60-yard scoring strike as Oxnard built a 34-7 lead in the third quarter.
Kimia Austin had three sacks, Charlee Bernal had a sack and Dominguez also had an interception for the Yellowjackets.
Oxnard (19-5) will visit Camarillo (22-4) in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
A year ago, Camarillo eliminated Oxnard 38-6 in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. They haven’t met this season.
“This one is big,” said Oxnard head coach Mark Cordes.
