A Thousand Oaks woman was airlifted to a local hospital after the motorcycle she was traveling on fell down an embankment on Sept. 25.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol received a report of the crash in the 18000 block of South Mountain Road just south of Santa Paula around 12:35 p.m., according to a CHP news release.
The woman, 78, was a passenger on a Harley Davidson Street Glide driven by an 81-year-old Las Vegas man, CHP officials said.
They were both found about 50 feet down the embankment, officials said. The woman was airlifted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center with major injuries, while the motorcyclist suffered minor injuries.
An initial investigation of the incident found that the motorcyclist had been traveling westbound
on South Mountain Road at about 35-40 mph when for unknown reasons he was unable to fully make the turn ahead, the CHP said.
The rider lost control as he veered toward gravel and continued down the embankment CHP officials said. The bike rolled over, causing the driver and passenger to be launched.
The CHP’s Ventura area office is investigating the crash.
