A 53-year-old Oxnard woman was arrested Oct. 22 after she allegedly crashed into a woman riding a scooter in Oxnard, killing the rider and fleeing the scene.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded to the intersection of West Gonzales Road and Snow Avenue around 10:53 p.m. and found a woman lying in the middle of the road with a scooter nearby, according to a police department news release.
The 45-year-old from Oxnard was transported to the hospital where she died of her injuries, officials said.
Police said a 2014 Nissan Xterra allegedly fled the scene of the crash and was later found near the intersection of Raiders Way and Dallas Drive after colliding with a fence.
An initial investigation into the crash found that the scooter rider
was headed southbound on Snow Avenue while the Nissan driver was traveling eastbound on Gonzales and struck the scooter, officials said.
Police said the Nissan driver displayed signs of impairment by drugs. She was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and run and driving impaired.
The 53-year-old was booked into Ventura County jail early Oct. 23, according to jail records.
Another Oxnard woman died Sept. 4 in a fall from a scooter. Her death was deemed accidental.
