Jaxson Carper threw four touchdown passes to Antonio Spann and also ran for a score as the St. Bonaventure High football team routed visiting Trabuco Hills 51-14 on Friday, Sept. 4, at Ventura College.
The Seraphs (3-0) have outscored their three opponents 113-41.
“We’ve been on a roll lately,” said St. Bonaventure coach Troy Hill.
Carper hit Spann for strikes of 55, 37, 19 and 14 yards, Tony Dargan ran for TDs of 63 and 4 yards, and sophomore Wyatt Barlow blocked his third kick in two weeks for the Seraphs, who scored the first 37 points.
St. Bonaventure visits Modesto-Central Catholic (1-1) this Friday.
Fillmore 34, Buena 24
Leading 13-10 after three quarters, the Flashes emerged from a wild 35-point fourth quarter with their first win of the season.
Micah Harm had 148
yards rushing and two TDs on 22 carries and Andrew Estrada had 93 yards and a TD on just six carries for Fillmore, which piled up 318 yards and three TDs on the 42 carries.
“We were moving the ball well,” said Fillmore coach Charlie Weis. “It was kind of a wild fourth quarter.”
Nate Perez completed 18 of 29 passes for 179 yards with TD passes to Estrada and Saul Fraga for Fillmore (1-2), which visits Grace this Friday.
Ryder Bucy threw a 77-yard scoring strike to Josiah Perez and Johnny Gallegos returned a kickoff 81 yards for Buena (0-3).
Bucy completed 23 for 36 passes for 230 yards and a TD for Buena, which visits San Marcos this Friday.
Santa Paula 39, Del Sol 31
Defensive end Gael Flores had a sack and blocked two kicks and linebacker Luis Medina returned an interception for a score as the Cardinals defense led a high-scoring win at Jones Field.
With both Xavier Alcantar and Dominic Alcantar out of the lineup injured, Isaiah Ramos ran for 89 yards and two TDs on 14 carries and Imari Carveth caught four passes for 63 yards and a TD to pace the Santa Paula offense.
“We made a lot of mistakes,” said Santa Paula coach Mike Montoya. “Too many penalties for us.”
Isaiah Flores ran for two scores and Jayden Ramriez and Anthony Perez added TD runs for the Jaguars.
“It was back and forth the entire game,” said Del Sol coach James Nelson. “There were a couple plays where we really hurt ourselves.”
Santa Paula (2-1) welcomes Nordhoff this Friday, while Del Sol (1-2) visits Oxnard.
Pacifica 39, Hart 20
Taylor Lee completed 11 of 20 passes for 272 yards, two TDs and two interceptions as the Tritons climbed out of an early 14-0 hole to improve to 3-0.
“You know how away games are,” said Pacifica coach Mike Moon, “especially the first away game. ... We didn’t have a great week of practice. To start out slow, I wasn’t surprised.”
Isaiah Phelps rushed for 97 yards and two TDs on 13 carries, Alijah Royster ran for a 17-yard TD and Anthony Jacobs caught three passes for 115 yards and two TDs for the Tritons.
Linebacker PeeWee Wilson had 17 tackles and a sack to lead the defense.
Pacifica travels to Palmdale-Highland this Friday.
Simi Valley 56, Bishop Montgomery 6
Sal Villa rushed for 139 yards and three TDs on six carries as the host Pioneers improved to 2-1.
Connor Petrov completed all eight passes for 214 yards and three TDs, Micah Hannah caught three passes for 87 yards and two TDs, and Wyatt Ruiz returned an interception for a TD for Simi Valley, which opened up a 35-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
“We just jumped all over them,” Simi Valley coach Jim Benkert said. “We were able to play a lot of guys. Everyone got on the field.”
Sophomore Jaden Thompson completed his three passes after relieving Petrov, so the Pioneers quarterbacks were a combined 11 for 11 for 298 yards and four TDs.
Simi Valley travels to Reno, Nevada, to face Spanish Springs this Friday.
Newbury Park 31, Arroyo Grande 14
Senior Tyler Stromsoe rushed for 74 yards and three TDs on 20 carries the Panthers ground out physical a road victory on the Central Coast.
“It was a dog fight,” said Newbury Park coach Joe Smigiel. “It was a really fun game to be at.”
The Panthers (1-2) made an early 17-0 lead stand up to earn their first win of the season.
“Our defense is really good,” Smigiel said. “It’s the strength of our team right now and we’re playing into it.”
The Panthers visit Conejo Valley rival Thousand Oaks this Thursday.
Ventura 26, Lakewood 24
Tristan Savage had 224 yards from scrimmage and three TDs as the Cougars held off host Lakewood.
With sophomore running back James Watson out injured, the junior picked up the slack, carrying 20 times for 127 yards and two TDs and catching seven passes for 97 yards and a TD.
“Tristan dug us out of a hole,” said Ventura coach Tim Garcia. “We showed some grit by still battling and coming away with a win despite a dismal performance.”
Linebacker Connor Paquette had 11 tackles, four tackles for a loss and a sack.
Ventura visits Camarillo this Friday.
Moorpark 33, Birmingham 20
Dawson Armstrong completed 18 of 27 passes for 274 yards and four TDs as the Musketeers scored 33 of the first 40 points on the road to improve to 2-1.
“We started out really hot,” said Moorpark coach Christian Dearborn.
With senior Davis Benson out injured, junior receiver Blake Davidson caught six passes for 107 yards and three TDs.
“Blake had yet another great game,” Dearborn said. “He scored the play after Davis came out.”
Senior Payton Sustin and sophomore Chase Cerny had interceptions for Moorpark, which hosts West Ranch this Thursday.
Oak Park 28, Brentwood School 7
Sophomore quarterback Bryson Kennedy rushed for three TDs and senior running back Nevada Ford ran for another as the Eagles piled up 240 yards and four scores on the ground at home.
“We just wanted to punch them in the mouth,” Oak Park coach Casey Webb said. “We ran the ball 31 times.”
Kennedy completed 9 of 15 passes for 129 yards and ran for 52 yards on 11 carries. Ford ran for another 78 on seven carries.
Oak Park (3-0) hosts Castaic this Thursday.
Westlake 49, Chatsworth 14
Demare Dezeurn caught five passes for 85 yards and two TDs as the Warriors improved to 3-0 with a home win Thursday.
“We handled what we needed to handle the right way,” said Westlake coach Rick Clausen, “which was good.”
Sophomore Ford Green completed 7 of 11 passes for 118 yards and a TD and also ran for a TD. Freshman Hendrix Tucker completed 7 of 11 passes for 96 yards and three TDs.
“He played well,” Clausen said of his backup QB Hendrix. “It’s good for him to get some live reps. ... A lot of other kids got a lot of reps, which is great to see.”
Westlake hosts Laguna Beach this Thursday.
Royal 46, Contreras 7
Landon Shaffer rushed for 138 yards and two TDs as the Highlanders improved to 3-0 with a road win in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
Josh Garcia had 103 yards from scrimmage, running for 76 yards on five carries and catching two passes for 27 yards and a TD.
Josh Salazar ran for two TDs and Michael Toole added another as Royal piled up 295 yards and five scores on 27 carries.
Royal has a bye week before hosting Del Sol on Sept. 18.
Grace 35, El Camino Real 10
Sophomore Owen O’Neal had three TDs as the Lancers outscored host El Camino Real 35-2 after an early deficit.
O’Neal ran for 64 yards and a TD on 13 carries and caught three passes for 27 yards and two scores. Landon LaSecla rushed for 64 yards and a TD on 13 carries.
Grace quarterback Riley Williams completed 18 of 34 passes for 221 yards, three TDs and one interception.
“We had to learn to play on the road,” said Grace coach Tom Coate. “We went on a little bit of a roll there.”
A 62-yard TD run by Karson Richardson put host El Camino Real ahead 8-0 on the second play of the game.
Leading 14-10 at the break, the Lancers pitched a shutout in the second half. Grayer Gibbons had eight tackles and three tackles for a loss. LaSecla and Charlie Martinez had interceptions.
“It was a bigger, physical opponent,” Coate said. “But our small, little defense came to play.”
Grace hosts Fillmore this Friday.
Nordhoff 35, Mira Monte 7
Michael Dennie completed 15 of 27 passes for 277 yards, four TDs and two interceptions as the Rangers improved to 3-0 with a home win over the opponent from Bakersfield.
“That was a good physical team we played,” Nordhoff coach Dillon Lowen said. “It was definitely a fun battle. Our offensive line held its ground.”
Sophomore Cooper Cole caught five passes for 97 yards and two TDs, junior Isaiah Giesa caught five passes for 86 yards and a TD, and senior Jonathan Verduzco caught a 19-yard TD pass.
Bret Winters had 14 tackles, Thomas Eckert and Rea Duenas had 13 tackles apiece, and Verduzco, Cole and Colt Craig had interceptions for the Rangers, who travel to Santa Paula this Friday.
Calabasas 47, Burbank 7
Jesse Belvin ran for three touchdowns and Kingston Celifie returned a punt 46 yards for a score as the Coyotes improved to 3-0 for the second time in three years with a home win.
Calabasas hosts Birmingham this Thursday.
Saugus 38, Camarillo 35
Brad Barlow’s 13-yard TD pass to Jacob Garcia gave the Scorpions a 35-30 lead with 1:15 to play.
But Landon Lattimore returned the subsequent kickoff to the Camarillo 37, setting up his 5-yard TD catch with 17 seconds to play to lift Saugus.
It was the third straight dramatic ending to start the season for Camarillo (1-2).
“I can’t take these anymore,” said Camarillo coach Nate Anderson, jokingly. “If you want to edge of your seat thrills, sign up for Camarillo.”
Brad Barlow completed 19 of 31 passes for 295 yards and four TDs and also ran for 60 yards for Camarillo, which held the lead five times, including twice in the fourth quarter.
“I think we kind of beat ourselves,” Anderson said.
With Cruz Howe out injured, Garcia had eight catches for 146 yards and a TD and Johnny Diaz caught five passes for 80 yards. Malakai Mejia caught a 21-yard TD pass and Carter McPeters caught a 13-yard TD pass.
“The offense is playing well,” Anderson said. “I feel like I’m on repeat. Brad Barlow is nails right now.”
Camarillo hosts Ventura this Friday.
Liberty 20, Oaks Christian 17
Kaden Nesen’s 35-yard field goal and Hayden Kennington’s 45-yard return of a blocked punt gave the Lions a 10-0 lead in the first half.
But Oaks Christian fell to 0-3 after being outscored 20-7 the rest of the way.
“We just self-destructed a lot,” said Oaks Christian coach Rudy Carlton. “Our immaturity shows at the wrong times.”
Freshman Cody Bird made his first start at quarterback and completed 12 of 17 passes for 108 yards and a TD pass to Aiden Crecian.
The Lions host Sherman Oaks-Notre Dame on Friday.
Santa Clara 50, Saint Jeanne 10
Quarterback Rudy Cerna ran for two scores and threw for another as the Saints improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2008 with a road win Saturday night in Temecula.
Issac Villanueva ran for two TDs, Eythan Prado ran for a TD and Justin Munoz returned a fumble for a score as the Saints, which led just 9-3 at the half, scored six times in the second half to pull away.
Santa Clara hosts Hollywood this Friday.
San Marcos 35, Channel Islands 0
The Raiders (0-3) have scored just 13 points this season after being shut out by previously winless San Marcos.
“We have a good team in my opinion,” said Channel Islands coach Jeremiah Valoaga. “We just have to go back to the drawing board and maybe move some pieces around.”
Channel Islands hosts Taft this Friday.
