A former championship wrestling coach was remanded into custody without bail Sept. 1 for violating pretrial release terms of his suspected sexual assault case, according to authorities.
Ronald Wilson, 73, of Colorado, is charged with 13 felony sexual assault counts involving four former students, according to a Ventura County District Attorney's Office news release. The offenses stem from allegations dating back to the 1990s, when Wilson was a teacher and wrestling coach at Oxnard High School, until as recent as 2016 at Camarillo High School.
In August, Ventura County Sheriff's Office detectives found that Wilson's actions on social media violated terms of a pretrial release, the DA's office said. Additionally, Wilson was observed attending a church
in Ventura that shared property with a school hosting a back-to-school event. That presence violated a separate condition of his release mandating him to stay away from schools.
On Sept. 1, prosecutors argued Wilson's alleged actions on social media and attending a church service, where children were known to be present, violated court orders. The court agreed, finding the two violations significant, and ordered Wilson remanded into custody without bail pending trial.
He is being held in Ventura County jail, records show. A preliminary hearing at the Ventura County Superior Court is set for Sept. 22.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges on July 7, as previously reported.
