A Santa Paula man received 29 years to life in state prison for yearslong child molestation during his Aug. 31 sentencing in Ventura County Superior Court.
A jury convicted Jaime Torres, 42, on June 24 of felony continuous sexual abuse, aggravated sexual assault of a child and lewd acts on a child as well as found true special allegations related to the crimes, according to a news release from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
The abuse happened between 2012 and 2018 to the victim, a girl who was under the age of 14, the DA's office said. She knew Torres, and the abuse happened at homes they shared in Oxnard and Santa Paula.
Prosecutor Ben Moreno said in the Aug. 31 news release he hoped Torres's sentence brings the victim "the justice
and closure she so profoundly deserves.” Moreno also applauded her courage and strength through the process.
The victim reported the abuse to a trusted family member in 2019, the DA's office said. Torres was arrested and charged in December 2020, according to court records.
