A 67-year-old Oxnard man was struck and killed on southbound Highway 101 in Ventura Aug. 25 after he apparently walked from the shoulder into traffic lanes.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 6:30 p.m. near the Main Street exit, according to a news release. Officers were assisted by Ventura County Fire and American Medical Response Ambulance.
The man walked into the lanes and was struck by a pick-up truck driven by a Thousand Oaks man, CHP officials said in the release.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the Oxnard man walked into traffic. It was not immediately clear if the man had come from a vehicle or not.
He was declared dead at the scene, CHP officials said. It was not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor
in the crash.
