A Ventura man in his 70s died July 31 after his vehicle crashed into a wall and utility pole near Pacific View mall.
Around 5:52 a.m., Ventura Police Department officers responded to a report of a crash in the area of Main Street and Emma Avenue, according to a department news release.
Officers said they found a male driver in the seat of his sedan with major injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.
The driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
An initial investigation found that the driver's vehicle was headed eastbound on Main Street when it veered off the roadway and struck a concrete wall and a utility pole, police said.
Cmdr. Todd Hourigan said a U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent was the
person who called in the accident.
That agent arrived after the incident and left after police and emergency medical personnel arrived, the commander added.
