A woman died after heavy surf battered her and a man against the rocks at Sycamore Cove Beach on Oct. 14.
Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office responded to the area around 11:40 a.m. and found Ventura County Fire Department and the California State Parks Department personnel assisting the two on the beach, said sheriff's Capt. Mike McConville.
The beach is part of Point Mugu State Park and is located along the Pacific Coast Highway near Sycamore Canyon Road.
An investigation into the incident found that the two were sitting on the rocks near the underpass leading to the beach when heavy surf dragged them into the water, McConville said. The two became stuck along the rocks that were continuously battered by waves, he added.
The man
was able to get himself and the woman out of the water and onto the beach and call 911, the captain said. Fire department personnel performed lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, authorities said.
