To be clear, a new Ventura County Fair policy means some people could show up at the event’s opening on July 29 with non-transparent purses, backpacks and other bags they can’t take into the event.
A clear bag policy was adopted by fairgrounds leaders in April
for the 12-day fair at 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. They cited security reasons, pointing too at the growing use of such policies at sporting events, concerts and fairgrounds.Under the new policy, the clear bags allowed into the fair will not be larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches. Clear purses and backpacks will also be allowed in the same sizes. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags will be allowed.
Reusable water bottles will be allowed at entry gates but must be empty.
Small
nontransparent clutch bags — no larger than 5 inches by 8 inches — will be allowed as will bags used to carry medical items. Diaper bags are also OK though a child will need to be present. Other nontransparent purses, backpacks and other bags won’t be allowed.
Fairgrounds officials are asking people not to bring bags that don’t meet the new protocols to the fair. But there will be a free check-in area where people who forget can leave their bags. The fair will also have a limited amount of free clear bags available at the fairgrounds.
The fair’s 12-day run ends on Aug. 9. Tickets on opening day are $5 if they are bought before 5 p.m.
Discounts are available on advance tickets bought online through July 28. They are $18.95 for adults including fees, $13.45 for people 65 and older and also for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger are free.
Once the fair starts, tickets at the gate or online are $20 for adults, $15 for people 65 and older, $15 for youths age 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger. People are encouraged to buy tickets online or at the fair from kiosks in the main parking lot.
